That's all I have — hopefully at least one of these questions will lead you to the root cause of your organic search traffic decline. Are there any other questions that you've found particularly helpful for diagnosing traffic decline? Let me know in the comments.
Picture this scenario. You’re a new hire who’s just australia number data been brought into a struggling marketing department (or an agency brought in to help recover lost numbers). You access Google Analytics, and see something like this:
This can create two types of emotional reactions: excitement or fear (or both). The continued decline in organic traffic excites you because you have a number of tactics and ideas that you think can save this company from spiraling out of control. But there is also the fear that these tactics won’t be enough to correct the course.
Regardless of whether these new tactics will be effective or not, it is important to understand the account history and determine not only what is happening, but why.
The company may have an idea why traffic is decreasing (i.e. competitors have come in and made it too difficult to rank for keywords, or they redesigned the website and never recovered).
Basically, it boils down to two things: 1) either you're struggling with organic optimization, or 2) something was off in your tracking in Google Analytics, has since been fixed, and hasn't been caught.
