Decide on the elements. A text with a symbol, or just text? An acronym with a text development, or just the acronym? With or without a claim? Remember that the more elaborate and detailed the logo, the more difficult it will be to reproduce on certain stationery, merchandising, and even website elements. Therefore, the simpler, the better : the easier it will be to identify, recognize, and remember.
Look for versatility and adaptability. Keep in mind the minimum reproduction sizes required, both on paper and online, for proper legibility. What media will you be reproducing it on? Will it read well on a business card? Will you use it as an avatar on a Twitter, Facebook, or other social media profile? In that case, for example, check how it will appear on a user's timeline on a mobile device: is it clearly visible? It may be better to create two layouts, one simpler and the other with all the elements and text fully developed.
