Gaining from being known

Post by jrineakter »

Hello, dear friends! Welcome to this new episode of the Authentic French podcast. It's a pleasure to welcome you. Today, I'm going to explain to you the meaning of the expression "to gain from being known". Here, I tend to spontaneously make the connection between "to gain" and "to". It's a connection that seems necessary to me. To gain from being known would sound a little less natural, I think, so I invite you to pronounce "to gain_from being known" instead. We're going to see together what this authentic expression used by French speakers on a daily basis means.

Before moving on to the content, I greece whatsapp number data remind you that you can... even right now, you can do it right now, you can download the free PDF file that accompanies this episode and which really includes all the explanations, the words, the meaning of the expression, the examples, etc. So, I invite you to perhaps already open the first link in the description to get your free PDF file.

So what does this expression "to win by being known" mean? And what do the words that compose it mean? I think it's relatively simple as far as words go. The verb "to win" is a fairly classic verb. It's the opposite of "to lose". When you win, you get a positive result. You can get a reward, but in any case, you have a positive result. If you were competing against someone, well, you were better than them. So to win means to get something and it's the opposite of "to lose".

"Known" is the past participle of the verb "to know". If something is known, well we are aware that it exists, we are aware that this thing or this person exists if this thing or this person is known, so we know that it exists. When we say that someone is known, there can be the aspect not only that we know them but that they are a somewhat famous person. A known person is a person that many people know. Many people know or many people know that this person exists and so we say that this person is known. So that is the meaning of the past participle "known".
