This is the fourth installment of “A First Look at the Metaverse,” focusing on the role of compute in the Metaverse. Compute is defined here as “the infrastructure of computational capabilities that support the Metaverse, enabling diverse and demanding functions such as physics computing, rendering, data coordination and synchronization, artificial intelligence, projection, motion capture, and translation.”
Estimating the need for more computing power
In the hardware and network categories, this article only analyzes a portion of the incremental data generated, sent, and received by the Metaverse, such as tactile, facial scans, and real-time environmental scans, while the computations involved in the entire Metaverse will be several orders of magnitude larger.
For example, Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang sees the next uganda mobile database step in immersive simulation as something more than a more realistic simulated explosion or street racing. It will be the application of “the laws of particle physics, gravity, electromagnetism, electromagnetic waves, light and radio waves, pressure, and sound.” Just as the virtual world is augmented, so too will the “real” world. Every year, more and more sensors, cameras, and IoT chips will be integrated into the physical world around us, many of which will be connected in real time to a virtual simulator that we can interact with. Meanwhile, our personal devices will serve as our passports to experience the metaverse and contribute to that reality. In short, much of the world around us will be constantly connected and online, including us.
