Edge Computing: Key Trends of 2021
30.12.2020
How will edge computing evolve in 2021 and how will it impact your strategy? Experts interviewed by Enterprisers Project discuss cutting-edge trends and talk about workloads, cloud partnerships, security, and other questions and challenges.
All year, industry analysts have predicted that paraguay mobile database computing—and the 5G networks that go with it—would grow significantly as major cloud providers deploy more edge servers in local markets and telecom providers push 5G deployments. The global pandemic hasn’t changed those predictions significantly. In fact, according to IDC FutureScape: Worldwide IT Industry 2021 Predictions, the impact of COVID-19 on workforce and operational practices will be the dominant driver for 80% of investment and business model changes in most industries over the next few years.
Let’s start with what we mean by Edge. Here’s how Rosa Guntrip, Senior Principal Marketing Manager, Cloud Platforms, Red Hat defines edge computing: “Edge Computing is the concept of bringing computing closer to service consumers or data sources. With new use cases such as IoT, AR/VR, robotics, machine learning, and telecom network functions requiring services to be delivered closer to users, edge computing helps address key issues of bandwidth, latency, resiliency, and data sovereignty. It complements a hybrid computing model in which centralized computing can be used for data-intensive workloads, while edge computing helps meet near-real-time workload requirements.”
