When you browse YouTube and use the free version, it is almost inevitable that you will encounter advertising. The increase in YouTube advertising represents an opportunity for SEM professionals looking for new channels to spread targeted campaigns. With the introduction of Smart TVs as a new Google channel, segmentation of these devices is also possible: one more option to reach new audiences.
While 30-second commercials have long been the real source of revenue for advertising campaigns, television is no longer the point of reference today because the new generations watch it much less than the previous ones. In their homes, instead of television subscriptions, more and more people are choosing alternative forms on the Internet such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube Premium.

A study commissioned by Google and Nielsen found that more than half of list of austria consumer email Americans aged 18-49 watch little or no TV at all. In contrast, 90% of this demographic watches videos on YouTube.

According to Google, this is the second major shift in how people use and interact with YouTube. While the first shift was a shift from desktop to mobile viewing, the next step will be a return to the roots of watching videos on TV . In 2017, YouTube launched the YouTube TV feature that allows users to watch live television on the platform, and in 2018, it introduced the ability to watch content from select cable networks, allowing publishers to target ads for both YouTube content and TV content watched on YouTube. These strategic moves demonstrate how Google sees huge potential in combining paid media with traditional television to build holistic advertising.
