LThe well-known music production company that has high-calibre artists such as Taylor Swift, Rosalía and Ariana Grande under its wing has not reached an agreement with ByteDance , TikTok's parent company. After the end of its contract on January 31, 2024, Universal Music Group will withdraw all its musical production from the vertical video app.

Why you won't be able to use Taylor Swift's music on TikTok anymore
"TikTok tried to intimidate us ," Universal said in a press release issued on January 30, explaining the main reasons for breaking the agreement with the Chinese-based app.

The reasons for the disagreement have centered on three azerbaijan number data main topics of discussion: adequate compensation for artists and songwriters , protection against the harmful effects of artificial intelligence on human artists, and online safety for users.

On numerous occasions, TikTok has claimed that the experience provided by the platform would not be the same without music , and therefore, neither would its growth. However, despite this, the discrepancy between the two companies in the compensation offered to Universal artists and songwriters has been a sticking point. Apparently, the compensation offered by Bytedance is a fraction of that given by other major platforms. This proposal has been seen as “ an attempt to build a business based on music, without paying fair value for it .”

Despite trying to continue betting on its "artist-centric" initiative in which artists are valued and compensated fairly in this new era of streaming, Universal's attempts have been in vain, as TikTok has not budged on its position.

The removal of the music producer's songs is already taking place. It not only affects new videos, but also old videos that had sound owned by Universal. We can even find old videos of Taylor Swift with her own music, muted . This decision will certainly mark a before and after on the platform.
