Opposing number eights, Gavin Holder for the Rams and Tim Olsen for the Tahs, took the Player of the Year points nominated by visiting Kiwi Referee, Mark Andrell as the forward battle finished in a draw. But the Rams backs were given way too much leeway by their less committed opponents to run away with the match.

Tristan Hart kicked a penalty goal for Tech Tahs to reduce the lead to four after ten minutes. Fly half Dane Kelly posted the Rams second try five minutes later with another great solo effort, weaving his way through some poor defense from fourty meters out to score under the posts. Russell goaled again for a 14 – 3 scoreline.

With the Tech Tahs forward effort every bit as efficient as the Rams play moved at a healthy pace but the Tahs backs could not finish off several promising forays into the Rams quarter. Hart added another penalty goal to keep the Tahs in touch at 6 – 14.

Tech can take some heart out of the match with the effort of their forward pack led by Captain Coach Tim Olsen matching that of the Premiers. Rams coach Brendon Schoupp would be happy with what he saw as his side starts to show some of the form and composure that took them to the 2013 title, but they still have some ground to make up on front runners Avondale and University. Along with Greentree and Holder, Camden’s best were lock Timothy Windle and fly half Dane Kelly.
