Approved at the end of last year, PL 54/2021 was created as belize mobile database an initiative that aims to democratize access to secondary education and reduce school dropout rates.

The law

Law 14,818 of 2024 establishes a financial incentive for public high school students in Brazil. This incentive takes the form of a type of savings account.

As determined, students regularly enrolled in public high schools, in all modalities, who belong to low-income families registered in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico), with a monthly per capita income equal to or less than R$218, will benefit. For the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) modality, eligible students are between the ages of 19 and 24.

Why is it important?

By directing resources directly to low-income students enrolled in high school, the legislation seeks to combat dropout rates by providing financial support that can mitigate the economic pressures many of these students face.

The initiative also serves as an instrument to promote social inclusion and combat educational inequalities, providing more equitable opportunities, helping all students, regardless of their socioeconomic status, to have access to resources that strengthen their commitment to education.

Which stakeholders are involved?

The federal government, including the Ministries of Education and Finance, are key players in promoting and implementing the legislation, establishing guidelines, regulating the program and managing the resources allocated to the financial incentive.
