The oldest and most popular seaside resort in Lanzarote , Puerto del Carmen was formed in the 1900s when it was home to just 200 inhabitants. The name " Puerto del Carmen " was chosen to pay homage to the patron saint of sailors: Our Lady of Mount Carmel .
