There are two basic types of leads
Globally, there are only two types of leads : commercial and non-commercial.
Commercial leads
When someone signs up to your list because they like your content, they are dealing with a non-commercial lead. This person has not expressed any need to hire a specific service from you. They probably won't buy anything from you in the short term, but you may make them want to hire a service from you later on.
Non-commercial leads
Then there are those who leave you their contact details because they already have a specific need. Typically this happens through traditional forms. If you are a blogger and offer services, it makes sense to have a separate section for those readers who have commercial needs in your field.
