Whatever you do, don't release music in March if you're a relatively unknown artist. SXSW is in full swing and all the media outlets are spending their time covering the action.
However, if you are planning on performing at SXSW, that's a different story. In this case, releasing your song(s) this month is something you definitely SHOULD do, as it can help make your work available for publications to use to write about the event/further promotion. If you aren't performing at SX, it's a better idea to attend the event and do some networking to gain more exposure before your next release.
If you decide to launch this month, these topics tend to do well:
Feeling good, light, positive messages
Happy and cheerful party tunes
Feed your brain…

How to Set Better Goals as a Musician in 2024
At this point, SXSW is over and touring season begins. Also, this month is Record Store Day. Consider partnering with your local record store and doing some related promotion. Keep in mind that April 15th is the dreaded Tax Day in the United States.
Songs about money (winning or losing it)
Hopeful and positive messages
May
May is an incredible month to release music because the summer festival season is about to take over. If summer vibes are your thing, now is your best time.Click to tweet
These themes always thrive during this month:

June/July
Now that summer is here, there are good vibes and plenty of summer hits. School holidays are starting and festival season is in full swing, which qualifies these months as the perfect time to release new music. If you can, get some festival gigs. Festivals are a great place to showcase your new release and rack up a ton of exposure.
