Last Tuesday (10/11), Google announced through its Official Google Cloud Blog that from now on Google Data Studio will become Looker Studio!
According to the search engine, this is its new unified business intelligence platform, which aims to make it easier for users to gain insights and make decisions based on information. Check out all the details about this new tool:
Google and the acquisition of Looker
Since February 2020, Looker has been part of the range of solutions offered by the world's largest search engine. According to the announcement published on the Official Google Cloud Blog at the time:
“I am pleased to announce that Google has completed its singapore whatsapp data acquisition of Looker. Together, we are excited to offer customers a comprehensive analytics solution that integrates and visualizes insights across every layer of their business.”
Since then, Google has sought to include Looker's exclusive features in its advanced analysis products, as the main reason for this acquisition was to find ways and tools that would facilitate the handling of data, so that more professionals could use the search engine's tools.
Unifying Google BI products
The search engine's current proposal is to create an umbrella with the Looker brand, under which all analysis and Business Intelligence products can be strategically allocated and integrated with each other.
Therefore, since its main BI tool until now was Google Data Studio, Google has officially migrated its old platform to become the main product of the new umbrella. As announced by the search engine:
“Today, we’re unifying our family of business intelligence products under the Looker umbrella. Looker is the name you’ll hear when we talk about our Google Cloud business intelligence products, as we bring together Looker, Data Studio, and core Google technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). And starting today, Data Studio is now Looker Studio.”
The search engine claims that with its new complete set of solutions, it will be possible to go a step beyond dashboards and panels to work with more intelligent information flows, a need that many companies have when making decisions.
What to expect from the new Looker Studio
The search engine has provided some relevant details about its new platform. According to the company, Looker Studio aims to facilitate self-service analytics for all users, supporting more than 800 data sources, with a catalog exceeding 600 connectors.
This way, it will be possible to explore different combinations of data, with an even greater variation of sources, in just a few clicks. These changes also give more autonomy to users, who do not need as much participation from an IT team to build the dashboards.
Additionally, Looker intends to maintain the functionality of Data Studio, but seeks to include a more complete user interface, so that professionals can work with modeled data in a more simplified way.
Looker Studio Pro
Although Google is making the new platform available free of charge to all users, the new feature also includes a version to meet the demand of customers who require more company-focused features.
Looker Studio Pro is an upgrade for companies looking for new enterprise management, team collaboration, and service level agreement (SLA) features.
Google also explains that even with the additional features, this is just the first version and that there is a feature roadmap in development that will start with the Dataplex integration for data lineage and metadata visibility, something that customers have been asking for.
