The age of the big social media 'kids'

Post by Bappy10 »

Let me consider: I see the Dutch social media landscape changing rapidly around me. The use of social media in particular is changing. In the past (haha, 3 years ago) it was still an inside network with a high level of familiarity; in the Netherlands it has now become mainstream. With all the consequences – blunders, irritations, dropouts and successes – that entails. But where are we at the beginning of 2012? The Netherlands has taken up leading positions worldwide when it comes to the use of LinkedIn and Twitter. On an American blog we have even been labelled as a guiding country .

The senior in the group is LinkedIn, already 9 years old and still indestructible. Undisputed business market leader. If you want to start somewhere with a social media strategy, make sure you have an excellent LinkedIn profile and let your network grow there. Without a good LinkedIn profile you are doing yourself a disservice and missing out on opportunities. For me, the success of LinkedIn lies in the incredibly good search function and the strict formal character. The latter has made it easier to accept among target groups that previously did not network online.

After LinkedIn, twins appeared, who make each other's lives miserable: Facebook and brother cell phone list Hyves, both now 8 years old. One wants to grow at the expense of the other. The other has decided not to go for large numbers but for content and Dutch conviviality. Facebook behaves everywhere like the naughtiest boy in the class; "if it's not allowed, we'll try anyway". The twins are strongly present and dominate a part of the social media landscape. These twins love conviviality and are crazy about sharing photos and videos. They chat a lot! Millions of Dutch people spend hours there every day. I like this, I scribble something here. There is no end to the messages. The power of these networks lies in the fact that it is very easy to keep in touch with people who matter to you. Whether they are in your class or live on the other side of the world. It doesn't matter. You are more involved in each other's normal lives. The user-friendliness of both sites is high.
