Pilot Project
The goal of the project was set in the following form: “Creation of digital information models based on design documentation that has already undergone an examination and received a positive conclusion in the form of traditional 2D documentation,” Ekaterina Kuznetsova shared with the audience of the BIM breakfast.
Robur was chosen as the tool for implementing the pilot project, as it had been used phone numbers in vietnam in the company for a long time and was also undergoing changes in accordance with new digitalization trends.
Then, based on the design documentation, a list of modeling objects was formed. The main difficulty in compiling it was that there were a lot of elements. It was then that the specialists of Rost-Proekt understood the advantage of TIM: all elements can be visualized and significantly facilitate the work of detecting and eliminating collisions.
Following the implementation of the pilot project, the working group identified two new tasks: conducting corporate training on working with new digital tools and drawing up internal work regulations.
Step #4: Shared Data Environment
As part of the pilot project, the working group also became familiar with the term “common data environment” (CDE), one of the basic concepts of the TIM.
Based on the TOPOMATIC software package, a system of related projects was implemented, in each of which a specific section of the project was developed. The final solutions were uploaded to the master project, within which a consolidated model was compiled in the .SMDX format. After that, the consolidated model was analyzed by the Chief Engineer: he looked for collisions, made comments, etc.
Step #5: The Real Object
"The logical continuation of our attempts to understand the TIM was a real object, the technical specifications for which included requirements to form the CIM. And then we had to remember the second version of the interpretation of the abbreviation BIM - Building Information Modeling. That is, this is a process in which it was necessary to connect the performers of different sections in one project environment," noted Ekaterina Kuznetsova.
The actual object was a 4-lane road of category IB, with a length of 9 km. The object had three interchanges at different levels, two overpasses, an overpass, as well as lighting, sewerage, noise protection screens and retaining walls in certain areas.
The modeling software package, in addition to TOPOMATIC Robur, also included the Renga system. And in the SOD category, S-INFO was used together with TOPOMATIC Robur: first, the model in IFC format was downloaded from Robur, then a consolidated model was created in S-INFO, which was transferred to the customer for analysis and after all corrections was downloaded for examination.
As a result, all project data consistently passed through four areas of the SOD, where they were developed, agreed upon, approved and archived in accordance with the procedures and regulations adopted in the organization.
Step #6: Developing Basic TIM Documents
At this stage, documents such as the IM project implementation plan, the CIM verification protocol, visual model verification reports, and internal corporate work instructions were developed.
According to Ekaterina Kuznetsova, the work on drafting regulatory documentation led the expert group to the idea that they needed to develop an internal enterprise standard that would structure everything and make their work easier.
In conclusion
Summing up, Ekaterina Kuznetsova noted that mastering new digital tools was not easy for Rost-Proekt, since they did not receive more time to implement projects with new requirements.
She highlighted the coordination of sections and timely detection and elimination of collisions as undoubted advantages for the design organization. Among the disadvantages is the customer's unwillingness to fully analyze and use the CIM.
Finally, the expert emphasized that, in her opinion, it is first of all worth figuring out what exactly information modeling technologies should be used for, and also establishing communication and exchange between specialists from different companies.
She also noted that TOPOMATIC
