Distraction : 'Are there other interesting things to focus my attention on?'
Friction : 'Can I apply for jobs without any hassle, the way I want? And is the process clear?'
Fear : 'Do I dare to leave my details here? And does this culture suit me?'
The first (motivation) can only be influenced to a very limited extent. Distraction is self-evident: make sure you keep the application page as free of noise as possible. Focus on the application and make sure the call-to-action (CTA) is clearly visible.
The other three (value, friction and fear) are well worth zooming in on, and by doing so we have significantly increased our application rate over the past year.
